The International World Youth Day is the largest youth event held in the world.  It gathers young people from around the world to build bridges of friendship and hope between continents, peoples and cultures.  This year, this event is being held in Sydney, Australia.  This will make it impossible for thousands of San Antonio and South Texas youth to participate.  On July 19th, youth and young adults from in and around San Antonio will gather to celebrate Faith and Life in spiritual union with the universal gathering in Sydney.  This celebration will be set in the newly renovated Main Plaza in downtown San Antonio in the shadow of the historic San Fernando Cathedral.  As the attendees take in the beauty of the Plaza, they will come together and learn from exciting speakers geared toward the youth of today and the issues they face on their way to adulthood.  They will also be able to celebrate with some of the most popular musical groups around.  And, most importantly, the majority of the day will be focused on our local youth, allowing them to use their talents to praise God through drama, music, poetry and art.
In the evening the Holy Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Jose Gomez for all to attend.  After Mass, OCP Recording Artist, Josh Blakesley, will complete the day with an exciting concert.  World Youth Day San Antonio 2008 will end at 10pm.
